Reflective Narrative:
As part of the fulfillment of MLO 6: Research and Technology, students learn about acceptable research procedures and can use them in their academic work, employ the best tools when researching the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, and gather, manage, and evaluate materials based on new and developing technologies. The courses that I have taken that fulfill this MLO are WLC 300: WLC Major ProSeminar, Span 300: Pre-Capstone for Spanish Majors, and WLC 400: WLC Major Capstone. As part of WLC 300, which was the introduction course to the major, I created an electronic portfolio on a website. In the creation of this website, I learned to edit website and turn it into a project I am proud of. This portfolio will allow me to display the work I have fulfilled as part of the Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures major. I was able to reflect on my learning experiences in the major and how I will apply what I learned to my life and career. Furthermore, in Span 300 I created an annotated bibliography where I gathered sources that supported my capstone project. In this annotated bibliography, I summarized the sources and where they came from. Lastly, in WLC 400 I co-wrote my capstone with my capstone partner. In the process of writing this paper, I utilized the library database and researched different academic articles related to my topic. Furthermore, I practiced my skills in creating a PowerPoint presentation for a major research project. These three assignments demonstrate my proficiency in utilizing online resources to create an electronic portfolio, as well as researching academic articles related to my main idea. After working on an assignment like my capstone which was an extensive paper, I feel that I can work on any academic article with more ease.
Some of the challenges that I encountered during this process were searching for academic articles that specifically connected to my topic. I learned to navigate online databases and narrow down my search engine, but I feel that I can still improve my database searching abilities. Furthermore, reading through heavy academic articles loaded with jargon was a challenging task that I could see myself improving on the more academic articles I read.
