WLC 300 - WLC Major ProSeminar
Course Description: This course introduces students to the Japanese Language and Culture, or Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures majors. Students acquire knowledge and understanding needed to fulfill Major Learning Outcomes for the programs, including literature, culture and linguistics, and to develop individual learning plans. The course examines opportunities in related professional and career paths, such as graduate education and teaching credential preparation.
Course Narrative: This course helped me fulfill MLO 6 by introducing me to the amount of research and technology usage there will be done throughout the course of my major. In this class we had an information session from the library that taught me how to methodically look for sources when doing research for my classes. In addition, in this course I learned how to use the Weebly interface, where I created my ePortfolio for my major. I also learned about the different career opportunities the Spanish major has to offer and how many options there are after completing my Bachelor’s in the department of World Languages and Cultures. This course also introduced me to the major and encouraged me to meet with my academic advisor and plan out my timeline here at CSUMB. This course allowed me to further get to know our department and made me feel excited to be well-supported. I also had the opportunity to write my personal statement for my ePortfolio, which was a reflective and thoughtful assignment that I thoroughly enjoyed. I wish to further develop my ePortfolio and get it to a level where I will feel proud to link it on my resume. This course relates to the Span 300 the PreCapstone class because similarly we are working on our ePortfolio and beginning to conduct research for our Capstone project.
