SPAN 300 - Pre-Capstone for Spanish Majors
Course Description: Directed toward Spanish majors preparing for their Capstone experience, this course aims to guide the student in the process of completing a capstone proposal and initiating the preliminary steps toward the graduation ePortfolio. The ePortfolio provides evidence that a student is making satisfactory progress toward meeting the Core requirements and Major Learning Outcomes (MLOs) for the Spanish B.A.
Course Narrative: This course meets MLO 6 through the large assignment that I completed in the class. I was able to curate an annotated bibliography with my capstone partner, Chris. The annotated bibliography was something that we worked towards gradually throughout the semester, and it helped ground our research and the creation of our research topic. I learned about the importance of creating an annotated bibliography because it serves as a document that will be a summary of all the articles you are reading to conduct your research. To create an annotated bibliography, Chris and I had to find focus on what type of articles we would be looking for in the CSUMB database as well as Google Scholar. In this course, we conducted a lot of research to be able to figure out what research we would like to further research. This research had to be something that we could add to and provide new information. Our capstone advisor Dr. Pozzi was also very helpful in guiding us through what we should look for. In addition, our librarian Sarah Dahlen taught us how to search the databases, and how to keep track of the information we were reading. In the future, I wish to find a method that is easy to track all the information that I was reading in each article. I was documenting the information I found in a separate Google Doc, but then I would forget to add it to the document. I am proud of myself for reading the most academic articles I have ever read, and for being able to keep track of all of the articles I read in my annotated bibliography. I intend to use these skills in graduate school at San Jose State University, where I will be pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching.
